My Final Advice, A Positive Farewell

By: Bella DeFranco

What I wish someone told me before I entered the turmoil of ups and downs in college is to sit with things. And, what I mean with sitting with things is to let everything absorb into you, flow through you, learn from them and never disregard them, but also it is okay to let them go if needed to.

College can bring comfortable and drops you into the most uncomfortable scenarios. It will bring along people and experiences that serve as life lessons, even if it's a painful ordeal. From personal experience, college has brought me lows and personal challenges I've never experienced before. I've fallen a bit and everyone does, that is life, and you'll fall sometimes too.

But, I promise you will get through it no matter big or small. And you have time to self reflect in college even when things are hectic or you're always busy. You also need to allow yourself to have time for self care. Self reflection, self love, and self care are in my opinion what's most important in navigating college. Without those factors, you won't be established more successful studies, relationships, and work etc. You have to take care of yourself first.

These can be easier said than done of course. Therefore, don't always punish yourself for your own progress and routine for yourself if it's different than others. Everyone in college is on their own path. You don't necessarily know what everyone is going through which means you shouldn't compare yourself to them in the first place. Some can be struggling when you'd guess them as the last person to be struggling.

Lastly, never be afraid or ashamed to ask for help. You can meet some amazing people that are inspiring to you, will be there for you, and or ones you can relate to mutually on various things in college. These are called friends, friends in college have been the most real friendships I've ever had in my entire life. They're my backbone in college and I couldn't be more grateful for them. And also for my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, I wouldn't be the woman I am today without my chapter. You got this, believe and be kind to yourself.
