Greek Life? Potentially your calling?

Greek life is a prominent organization in colleges across the nation. And at Chico State, as much as the student body life is always at a present, so is its Greek life community. Greek life here on campus consists of multiple fraternity and sorority chapters. Each chapter shares its own set of values, philanthropy, and overall generational traditions. A good majority of the students here at Chico State are involved in a chapter.

I mention Chico State because I am personally involved in Greek life being in Alpha Delta Pi’s sorority here at Chico State. I joined last spring semester after going through formal recruitment. Meeting some of my best friend’s in this chapter, having close friends in other sorority chapters and having guy friends in fraternity chapters has been the most rewarding experience. I was clueless on what being in a sorority meant, but now I’m the member beginning to recruit our newest pledge class for the spring semester. As well as, I'm now in a position being an executive member on our board.

Therefore, college campuses have either a sturdy greek life option or not. But, regardless it can still be an option whether you want to join or not. You can broaden your horizons by meeting a bunch of new people when you rush (go through the first initial recruitment process) or when you join. This especially helps if you are a freshman wanting to make new friends/ meet new people.

I get it though, Greek life has a reputation that some deem negative but going to college is the best chance to get out of your comfort zone. Even if it's something you wouldn't typically do, I suggest to explore it at least. There are multiple chapters all with different vibes, philanthropies, values, and traditions that could potentially make you feel at home too. 

Whether it's a fraternity or sorority, I suggest going to your university's website and taking a look at their Greek life affairs section. Most chapters are associated with the universities, which makes you feel a lot more connected to your campus, future career path, and classes along with being in an organization separate of it. 

All in all, I love my ADPI & Diamonds up!
